Context
Manual village asset data makes transparency and reporting difficult. Karangwuni Village needed a digitalized system.
What We Built
We digitalized village asset data into an easily accessible system, supporting transparency in village governance.
Village assets include communal land, buildings, local roads, irrigation channels, and public facilities. When these are recorded only in ledgers and printed files, two problems recur: knowledge of what exists depends on whichever officials are currently serving, and preparing a report means recounting from scratch every time one is requested.
Digitalisation moves that knowledge out of memory and into a database. Each asset is recorded with its location, attributes, and status, so the information no longer disappears when village officials change.
The system was built with CodeIgniter and MySQL, with Leaflet.js for the map — a lightweight architecture that runs on ordinary hosting, within a village budget.

Transparency here has a fairly concrete meaning: asset data can be inspected, not merely reported. Village officials, the oversight body, and residents all refer to the same record, so discrepancies in figures stop being a matter for debate.
Accountability follows from traceability — each asset carries its own recording history, useful both when accountability reports are compiled and when an audit takes place.
